KIVARI AX
Kivari AX is a medium-early wheat variety from PlainsGold, released in 2020. It offers strong grain yield, excellent drought, heat, and frost tolerance, and performs well in low pH, aluminum-toxic soils. Its early first hollow stem timing suits grazing and grain dual-use, though livestock must be removed early to preserve yields. In wetter regions with high yield potential, use a plant growth regulator to manage straw strength.
Note: PVP protected, single-season use only. No saved seed. Stewardship Agreement required.
AMPLIFY SF
Amplify SF is a semi-solid stem HRW wheat variety released by Colorado State University in 2021 and marketed by PlainsGold. It has a medium height and maturity, making it well-suited for High Plains conditions. With a 17/25 pith rating, it offers partial resistance to wheat stem sawfly. This variety is certified seed only, protected under PVP regulations.
FORTIFY SF
Fortify SF, released in 2019, is Colorado’s first semi-solid wheat bred to combat the wheat stem sawfly—a pest known to slash yields by up to 50%. Its increased stem pith slows larval feeding and migration, protecting the plant from damage before harvest. Additional strengths include medium-early maturity, improved test weight compared to Byrd, and resistance to wheat curl mite. Fortify SF also outperforms Montana semi-solids in High Plains yield trials.
Note: PVP protected; certified seed sales only under variety name.
BYRD CL PLUS
Released by CSU in 2018 and marketed through PlainsGold, this two-gene Clearfield wheat shares its genetic background with Byrd but stands out with its tolerance to Beyond herbicide. It brings excellent drought resilience and grain quality, along with some observed non solid-stem resistance to wheat stem sawfly.
Note: Certified seed only.
